Jack Kevorkian, known as “Dr. Death” for killing at least 130 people through the practice of assisted suicide, was released on parole on June 1, 2007. Many of the assisted suicides he orchestrated were on people who were not terminally ill, but depressed. Kevorkian reported that out of his first 69 victims, only 17 were terminally ill. Close to 75% were women, most of whom were divorced or never married. Eventually in 1999, Kevorkian went to prison for giving a lethal injection to a man, which was videotaped and televised on 60 Minutes. On the tape, Kevorkian dared authorities to try to stop him from killing more people. Kevorkian now plans to lobby for legalization of assisted suicide.
